The Big Blue Thing on the Hill by Yuval Zommer - NO

Zommer, Yuval The Big Blue Thing on the Hill.  PICTURE BOOK.  Templar (Candlewick), 2014.  $17.  Content: G.

The animals of the Great Forest are mystified by the Big Blue Think that has occupied the top of Howling Hill.  They try all they can think of to get rid of the Thing, but it isn’t until the Wise Old Owl comes up with a successful plan that the Thing finally leaves.

At first I thought this book was kind of cute, but as I reached the end, I kind of just thought it was creepy and that the animals came off as paranoid – especially when the author actually shows the shadows of the humans inside the vehicle being stung by the mosquitoes in the final assault.  Started with promise, but for me it just didn’t work.
