There’s going to be a baby –NOT RECOMMENDED

Burningham, John There’s going to be a baby PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick, 2014. $7.99 Content: G
This book is a series of questions from a young boy to his pregnant mother about the new baby. She tries to answer all of the questions. We also see what the young boy imagines in his mind, like the baby being a banker and giving him all the money or the baby being a gardener.
This book was wonderfully illustrated! I didn’t quite like the content though. I think it fails to answer the most important question on a young childs mind, will I be ignored or forgotten? The young child also suggests that Tigers could eat the baby when they go to the zoo, an idea I am sure most parents don’t want to introduce to a young child. I think the young boy is supposed to naturally start thinking more pleasant thoughts as the book goes along to the conclusion, where he is excited for the baby to arrive, however I just don’t think it worked out that way. There is also a completely naked illustration, which may preclude this from being included in a school library.
