Lark Rising by Sandra Waugh - ADVISABLE

Waugh, Sandra Lark Rising, 370 p. Random House, 2014.  $18.

Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (mild).

Lark’s village has never had an easy life, but they have always been loyal.  Now news has come that their deadliest enemies are coming straight for the village.  Lark must be the one to take word to the Guardian’s - a group of warriors who may be able to save the day.  When she rides for help however, her life is almost forfeit.  She has no idea of her bigger destiny and her new powers keep her confused and heartsick with worry that she may not be able to do what has to be done.

Waugh has written a solid beginning to her quartet (I think) of fantasy.  She also manages to let us know that there will be more books, but have us feel that we have reached a good concluding point for this part for the tale - no cliff-hanger as a means to keep us engaged.  I am eager to read the next book for itself and to learn more about the world.
