Captain America: an Origin Story-ADVISABLE

Thomas, Jr. , Rich, ill. By Val Semeiks, Bob McLeod, Hi-Fi Design, and the Storybook Art Group. Captain America: an Origin Story. Pgs. 38. Marvel, 2014. $8.99

Steve Rogers was once an ordinary man living during the start of World War II. He wanted to be a soldier, but he didn’t qualify the regular way. Desperate to be a soldier, he took part in a secret research project that turned him into a super soldier. The lab, however, was destroyed while he was in it. Everyone survived, but he was the only soldier that was made. Working as a secret agent, he became Captain America and the hero we know and love today.

As far as origin stories go, this one is a little longer than most of them and a few of the start pages could probably be cut out. Nonetheless, the illustrations are detailed and engaging. The story of Captain America will appeal to superhero fans everywhere. EL (K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
