16yo Malencia (Cia) Vale is excited for the graduation day that is celebrated every year in the Five Lakes District. Cia hopes and dreams that she will be selected for The Testing. The Testing is a program that chooses the best and the brightest graduating students for special testing and a chance to be selected as one of the 20 finalists for a chance at a University education. The United Commonwealth want the best students to become possible leaders of the post-war civilization. It has been many years since anyone from the Five Lakes District has been chosen. When Cia is chosen, her father finally tells her about his own experience and of his recurring nightmares. He tells Cia to “trust no one” as she heads off to the capital, Tosu City, to begin her testing. She might never see her family and friends again.

If you are a fan of books like Hunger Games and The Maze Runner, you will love this well written thriller and dystopian novel filled with both terror and romance. The book contains some violence, like the violence in Hunger Games  and  Maze Runner. This book kept me reading till the very end, leaving me wanting the second book right now!
