Every Day After by Laura Golden - ADVISABLE

Golden, Laura Every Day After, 224 p. Random House, 2013.  $16.  Content: G.

In the midst of the Great Depression, Lizzie’s father walked out on her and her mother, leaving her mother in shock, and Lizzie having the hid her mother’s condition, while fending for herself.  A new girl has come to town with a huge chip on her shoulder and determined to eliminate Lizzie but stealing Lizzie’s best friend, Ben, and revealing her mother’s problems to the town doctor and sheriff, which would send Lizzie to an orphanage.  Lizzie is going to have to swallow her hurt and her pride if she if going to keep her mom and her best friend and the family home.

I am a huge fan of historical fiction and Golden does not disappoint.  She manages to bring the period to life by just showing the struggle son one girl in one small town.  We need a new author like Laura Ingalls Wilder - what do you think Ms. Golden?
