The Finest Hours: The True Story of a Heroic Sea Rescue by Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman - ADVISABLE

Tougias, Michael J. and Casey Sherman  The Finest Hours: The True Story of a Heroic Sea Rescue, 153 pgs.  NON-FICTION. Henry Holt (Macmillan), 2014.  $17.99  Content: Language: PG (3 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG-13.

On February 18, 1952 a horrible storm came through New England causing two tankers to split in half, stranding their men onboard.  The coast guard was called into help and almost lost their lives rescuing the crew members from the two ships.  Most of the men were rescued with a few horrible deaths of those who got taken by the sea during the rescue.

This is a true story of heroic coast guardsmen who put themselves in danger to save stranded seamen.  I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in one night because I wanted to know what happened.  It is action packed and interesting.  My only complaint is that there were so many people and names that at times it was hard to keep track of them all, but there was a list at the beginning to help keep it clear.
