Favorite Stories from Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa School Days by Erica Silverman -- ADVISABLE

Silverman, Erica Favorite Stories from Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa School Days, illustrated by Betsy Lewin. PICTURE BOOK. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2007. (Reprint, 2014.) $12.99. Content: G.

Includes two stories from the original Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa School Days collection. In "A New Friend," Cocoa the horse is jealous when Kate brings home a new pal, but Kate shows Cocoa that she will always love him best. In "A Report," Cocoa wants Kate to play with him, but she has to write a report for school. Good thing her report is on horses, so Cocoa can help her with it.

Both of the stories deal with topics many students will encounter in their lives: friendship, jealousy, and balancing homework with play time. The equine-centric tales, with their colorful illustrations, will likely appeal to many horse lovers. Because this is a reprint, librarians and teachers may want to check their collections before purchasing, in order to avoid unintentional duplicates.
