Lexi knows she'll never be allowed to have a dog, but when a new pet store comes to town she discovers it is no ordinary shop. Indeed, before she can believe it her parents are letting her have a puppy of her own. Not only that, but the puppy seems to be very special -- magically so!
This fun little chapter book has a good pace with charming characters. The magic is revealed in pieces, with just enough tantalizing tidbits keep children reading and guessing. Many readers will relate to Lexi's yearning for a dog, as well as her sadness that her best friend is moving to another town. While this is the first of a series, it stands on its own well, although children who enjoy this one will likely request the next.
