Princess Penelope and the Runaway Kitten by Alison Murray-OPTIONAL

Murray, Alison Princess Penelope and the Runaway Kitten. PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick Press, 2013. $15.99.  Princess Penelope lives in Royaltown Palace.  She is hoping for someone to play with her but Daddy is reading and Mommy is knitting so she makes friends with a mischievous kitten.  The kitten has been playing with Mommy’s pink yarn and runs off with the string attached.  The illustrator has created the string in pink raised glitter that winds throughout the entire book as the kitten moves from one room in the Palace to the next.  She even makes her way outside, the yarn trailing behind everywhere she goes.  Penelope cannot figure out where the kitten is going as she travels upstairs and down, inside and out.  Princess Penelope gets tired and sits down with a thump.  The reader will be pleasantly surprised when the kitten finally reaches its destination.  Little girls will love the pink string running throughout the book.  But that’s the extent of what I though was special about this book.  I didn’t’ like that it was written  in rhyme.   Pre-K. El (K-3).  OPTIONAL. Reviewer: SL.
