Hokey Pokey by Jerry Spinelli - - OPTIONAL

Spinelli, Jerry Hokey Pokey, 285 pgs. Alfred A. Knopf, 2013. $15.99

Language: PG (4 swears, 0 Fs); Violence:
PG (Bullying); Mature Content: G.

Jack is the most respected Big Kid in all of Hokey Pokey, a place where there is only children; newbies, snotsippers,  longspitters and gappergums play all day long, watch cartoons and listen to stories.  But today, Jack wakes up to find that Scramjet, his beloved bike (and practically friend) is missing, and a GIRL has it.  Other things have changed, too. What happens when you start to grow up?

This off-beat look at friendship, growing-up and life is a bit hard to get into, the first several chapters are pretty confusing as he establishes the characters and setting.  The rest of the book shifts quickly between characters and is scattered and disjointed. This is not your average Jerry Spinelli.
