Buddy and the Bunnies In: Don't Play With Your Food by Bob Shea-ADVISABLE

Shea, Bob Buddy and the Bunnies in: Don’t Play With Your Food! PICTURE BOOK.  Disney- Hyperion, 2014. $16.99.  Buddy the monster is VERY hungry and very grumpy. “Outta my way, trees! Dry up, Lake! You better run birds!”  When Buddy happens upon a group of cute little bunnies, he yells, “I’m going to eat all you bunnies!” “No, please, no! We were about to make cupcakes!” Buddy loves cupcakes and decides that he can wait to eat the bunnies AFTER the cupcakes are done.  And so begins the “dance” of how the little bunnies effectively trick Buddy into not eating them for dinner.  Buddy soon learns the adage: “Don’t play with your food.” This is a sweet and cute story about friendship and fun.  The digital artwork is full of bright colors and images that draw the reader into each page.  Attentive kids will notice that the bunnies multiply as the story progresses.  This book could be used in a unit on friendship, and could be used in a math unit as the students determine how many new bunnies enter the storyline. We enjoyed this book! Pre-K.  EL (K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: SL.
