The Night they Stole the Stanley Cup (A Screech Owls Book) by Roy MacGregor –NO

MacGregor, Roy The Night they Stole the Stanley Cup 176 pgs. Tundra Books, 2013. $8.95 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: PG13 Violence: G. RE-RELEASE.
The Screech Owls, pee-wee hockey team, is in Toronto for a tournament. Travis is now the captain and is challenged by his leadership role. A new boy on the team is a bad influence on the other players and some of the boys are caught stealing and kicked off the team. The boys have some adventures at various tourist attractions and even get to see the real Stanley Cup. When Travis finds out that the cup might be stolen soon, will he be able to finally become a real leader?
Again, this story is for Hockey sports fans only, as there is no explanations about the game. Additionally this story is not a read-alone, other books in the series must be read first to understand the characters, and seeing as how the books aren’t number, that would be tricky.  This one is only for middle school or higher as it contains references to exceedingly underage smoking and refers to hotel pay per view porn and numerous references to strip clubs. I will not be responsible for introducing that knowledge to an elementary student. Despite its push at good sportsmanship and learning decision good making, I wouldn’t purchase this for my library. I have read other sports books which do a better job at keeping it real yet wholesome and educating about a sport while the story is taking place, so the reader doesn’t feel left out.
