A Place for Turtles by Melissa Stewart - ADVISABLE

Stewart, Melissa  A Place for Turtles  Illustrated by Higgins Bond Peachtree Publishers, 2013.  $16.95  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G
This book concentrates on the environmental issues that turtles populations are struggling with in the United States.  There is a plea for humans to be careful with nature because it is destroying turtles natural habitats.  There are ideas on how we can help the turtles by not collecting them as pets, racing them in turtle races, keeping our animals on leashes while walking in nature, and building turtle fences along the highways.
The text is simple and the ideas are basic, but there are side bars with more information about turtles and their habitats.  The realistic illustrations are beautiful and portray different kinds of turtles in different habitats: desert, ponds and oceans.  This book would most likely appeal to the elementary crowd, but it could be a good basic introduction for middle schools as well.
