When Mermaids Sleep by Ann Bonwill –ADVISABLE

Bonwill, Ann When Mermaids Sleep 32 pgs. random House Books for Young Readers, 2013. $12.15.  Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: G.
A dreamy story told in rhyme about where all magical creatures sleep. Includes dragons, unicorns, genies, griffons and more. Finally ending in the magical bedtime for a human youngster. Features large paged collage style artwork and subdued lighting.
I really liked this book, its poetry didn't falter, and the word choices to make that happen were perfectly chosen. This book could be used for a calming story time starter, or as an introduction to magical creatures. Of course, it would make a wonderful bedtime story for a toddler as well. Students can’t get enough of magical creatures at my school –so this is a nice one that younger students might be able to read on their own.
