Epic: M.K. Saves the Day by Lucy Rosen - OPTIONAL

Rosen, Lucy Epic: M.K. Save the Day,32 pgs. HarperCollins, 2013. $3.99  EARLY READER Content: G.
This early reader is based on the new movie Epic.  M.K. lives with her scientist father, Bomba.  Bomba believes that there is a world of little people in the forest and he wants to discover them.  M.K. is annoyed with her father’s obsession, until one day she chases her dog into the forest and finds the world of forest folk.  She quickly becomes involved in their efforts to save a blooming pod that determines the coming of spring to the forest.  M.K. uses her father’s help to save the forest people from the evil army of Boggans.
This book is a quick summary of the story and so the characters and the story aren’t well developed.  However, a young reader will be interested to know about the new world and whether or not the forest can be saved.  The pictures are bright and each page has about three sentences of text.  Fun for kids who liked the movie.
EL (K-3)-OPTIONAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
