Carl and the Sick Puppy by Alexandra Day - OPTIONAL

Day, Alexandra.  Carl and the Sick Puppy.  Square Fish (MacMillan's Children Publishing Group), 2012. $15.99.  PICTURE BOOK.  This is a level 1 book in the My Readers early reader book series.  Carl the dog learns that Daddy Dog has a sick puppy and could use Carl's help.  So Daddy Dog takes his other pups on a walk, and Carl tends to the sick puppy, getting him whatever he needs.  It is not really a story.  It is kind of cute that the sick puppy is never happy and Carl has to keep doing different things for him.  I think that some kids would enjoy this book, but if you already have some of the Carl books then I am not sure that you would need to pay $16 to add this one to your collection.  If you don't have any, this one is cute and you might consider buying it.  This is a pretty good LEVEL 1 early reader book.   Pre-K, EL(K-3) - OPTIONAL.  Brent Smith, Reading Teacher
