The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea by Helaine Becker –ESSENTIAL

Becker, Helaine and Illustrated by Dawson, Willow The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea 80 pgs. Kids Can Press, 2012. $11.48.  (Rating: G).
This science book introduces simple science concepts tied to the ocean ecosystems and its inhabitants. Each concept is illustrated with science experiments that kids can do themselves. Also included are earth friendly tips. The book is fully illustrated and includes some photos.
Excellent top notch book! Don’t let the dreary boring cover fool you (and it might fool some of your students), because this book is stuffed with incredibly well explained concepts as well as fun experiments that would make great jumping off points for science fair projects!! My favorite is the experiment to illustrate how underwater creatures use camouflage.  The book is current and full of relevant tips for what a student can do to help make eco-friendly changes in their own life. The illustrations are simple, yet effective. A must have for a school library.
