Home for the Holidays by Heather Vogel Frederick - ESSENTIAL

Frederick, Heather Vogel Home for the Holidays (The Mother-Daughter Book Club),  339 p. Simon, 2011.  $16.  Content: G.  The girls have made it to their sophomore year and this time they are reading all of the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace.  Each of the girls has her challenges, but Becca has a gigantic secret – her father has lost his job and they are barely keep things together.  As Christmas approaches, the girls take off in different directions – the tightest friendships will face the biggest challenges this time around.  Finally – Becca gets some chapters of her own.  And she gets a little character growth, too.  The book references are more defined this time, with the girls actually referring to different titles in the series as things happen to them.  I hope next time Ms. Frederick is not quite so obvious – but since this is a lesser known series, I do understand the need.  Fans of the series will be very happy.  EL, MS – ESSENTIAL.
