The Unicorn's Tale by R. L. LaFevers - ADVISABLE

LaFevers, R. L. The Unicorn’s Tale, illustrated by Kelly Murphy. 153 pgs. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2011. $14.99. Sexual Content-G; Language-G; Violence-G. Nathaniel Fludd Beastologist is frustrated in this fourth book. He wants to track down his missing parents, but his Aunt Phil thinks that helping a guivre and then a pregnant unicorn is more important. Cornelius the dodo bird isn’t very nice and Aunt Phil still hasn’t agreed to let Nate’s keep Greasle the gremlin. Greasle comes in handy because she’s a “fair maid” and tames the unicorn so Aunt Phil can examine her. Meanwhile the nefarious relative Obediah Fludd says that he will only release Nate’s parents if Aunt Phil gives him the Book of Beasts (locations of all magical creatures). Aunt Phil doesn’t trust Obediah, so Nate comes up with a plan to trick him. Kelly Murphy’s illustrations continue to charm and add to the story. The numerous illustrations, simple story, and quick plot make this an ideal pick for reluctant readers. EL – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.
