The Elephant Scientist by Caitlin O'Connell and Donna Jackson -ADVISABLE

O’Connell Caitlin and Jackson, Donna The Elephant Scientist (Scientists in the Field Series), 80 pgs. Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, 2011. $12.95.NON-FICTION
This book delves into a lot of information about Elephants while following the story of research scientist (and author) Caitlin O’Connell. She believes that elephants might be communicating with vibrations, much the way many insects do. The reader follows along as she makes her ground breaking discoveries.
While incredibly interesting, this book had a narrow focus, regarding communication, that is might not be a good general science book on elephants for your library. However, it would make a very current and photo stuffed addition -as a companion book to a more general text. Also a great curriculum connect to 'forms of communication' and for female role models/scientists.
Elementary -ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Stephanie MLS graduate.
