The life and opinions of Amy Finawitz by Laura Toffler-Corrie -ADVISABLE

Toffler-Corrie, Laura The life and opinions of Amy Finawitz, 352 pgs. Roaring Brook Press, 2010. $13.25. Language-G (Swear Count: 1G + 6 G religious); Violence-G; Sexual Content-G).
This book is presented as a one sided email conversation. Amy is the writer and she sends her emails to her best friend Callie, who moved to Kansas from New York. Amy feels abandoned and is having trouble adjusting. The other nerd girls at school are boring so she hasn’t made any new friends. When a school project turns out to be just the thing that she needs to connect her to the community, make new friends, and even spend time with the guy she has a crush on.
I really enjoyed this book. Having a one sided conversation, allows the reader to create part of the story themselves. At times I felt like I was checking my own email each time I picked up the book. Next we need a book that is all text messages -students can make up the other half of the conversations. There is a large Jewish religion element to this book and in parts I had trouble following the references. Overall a great read!
