Dreadful Fates by Tracey Turner -ADVISABLE

Turner, Tracey & Illustrated by Kinberg, Sally Dreadful Fates What a Shocking Way to Go, 192 pgs. Kids Can Press, 2011. $11.66. Content: Violence -PG
This book takes on unusual forms of death and treatment of bodies. There are themed chapters like: Fatal Food, Animal Encounters, and Ironic Fates. But what it mostly contains is just a whole lot of tidbits and tiny blurbs about historical and modern day people’s deaths.
Overall, this book was really interesting. I recognized some death stories from recent media and also liked all of the historical connections. In comparison to my recent review of How they Croaked, this book just wasn’t as well written. While if offered a huge variety of types of people, not just famous, the language wasn’t quite as fun. But for both books, what I really wanted to see was photos, drawings, and diagrams like DK books offer. I am going to say advisable, just don’t get redundant with these types of gross-out books.
