Slowpoke by Emily Smith Pearce

Pearce, Emily Smith Slowpoke, pgs. 39. Boyds Mills Press, 2010. $16.95. Language- G(0 swears) Mature Content- G; PICTURE BOOK.  Fiona likes doing things slow. She takes her time on everything, when eating ice cream it turns to milk and when shes in the tub her toes wrinkle. Her mom finally had enough of it. Fiona missed the bus one to many time and her mom sent her to speed school. She learned how to read 500 pages on 30 minutes and how to clean when you sleep. She continued doing thing at a rapid pace until one day her head stuck backwards! She has to teach her family that it isn't a bad thing to do things slow and Fiona got to go back to her slowpoke ways.        Some kids would certainly enjoy reading something like this. This book is a good lesson; you can take you time on some things but you can't always be a slowpoke. But on the other hand it's not good to move in a hyperspeed because you miss the world around you. I thought it was a great book. Grades 2-5- ADVISABLE Student Reviewer: CG
