Still Sucks to be me by Kimberly Pauley

Pauley, Kimberly Still Sucks to be me, 374 p. Wizards of the Coast, 2010.  $15.95.  Content: G (some mild vampire action).  Mina has taken the plunge and turned vampire to be with her mother and father.  Now seventeen forever, she didn’t realize that she would have to turn her whole life over to the Vampire Council, including being forced to fake her death and move to the tiny, nowhere town of Cartville, Louisiana.  Being a vampire has done wonders for her looks and her social life – she has managed to turn the school’s mean queen on her head.  But Mina is mourning her best friend Serena and her vampire boyfriend George, neither of whom has been very communicative since Mina “passed”.  Add in a dangerous mix of ancient vampires and a handsome, intoxicating vampire named Cameron, and Mina has a lot on her plate.  I enjoyed reading about Mina again – Dare I hope that we will visit her again.  There have been lots of crappy vampire books printed in the wake of Twilight, but this is much better than most.  MS, HS – ESSENTIAL.
