The Last Summer of the Death Warriors by Francisco X. Stork

Stork, Francisco X. The Last Summer of the Death Warriors, 352 pgs. Arthur A. Levine Books, 2010. Language - PG-13 (39 swears, 0 "f"), Sexual Content - PG; Violence - PG; All of Pancho's family is gone after his sister is killed and so he's sent to St. Anthony's, an orphanage. Here he meets D.Q. who was diagnosed with cancer six months earlier. D.Q. has a completely different perspective of life than Pancho and he wants Pancho to help him so that he can help Pancho too. But Pancho has a different plan: he wants to kill the guy that killed his sister. The story of Pancho's past is a sad one and I can see where he's coming from, and that makes it all the more wonderful when D.Q. comes into his life. D. Q. has an outlook on life that everyone should understand. My life, and the way I live, is changing since reading this book. MS-OPTIONAL, HS - ADVISABLE. Reviewer: CH
