Yggdrasil (Iggy) lives in the Hermione Hotel one of the most haunted buildings in Hollywood. The ghosts have their own suite. Iggy notices that some ghosts are missing and wonders where they went. She has plenty of time to search for the ghosts because attendance is optional at the Harmonious Reality School. Iggy and her two friends Neddie and Seamus find out where the ghosts went and enter an alternate world plane. Their odyssey in that world is truly odd, complete with dog policeman, cat-faced girls, Hoopies (hippies), “pissed off” witches, and the Uncle. This is a sequel to The Neddiad; however, the previous events are not summarized. Neddie believes he may have saved the world, he just can’t remember the details.

The title of this story gives a pithy overview of the plot. Author Daniel Pinkwater parodies the mid-nineteenth century Hollywood with aplomb, from swashbuckling actors like Errol Flynn to the atomic bomb; however, much the humor may be lost on the novel’s targeted age group. The plot overall feels episodically disjointed which may turn off readers.
